It was July of 2020 and a few hotels and resorts were starting to open back up on a limited basis post Covid-19 shut downs. My wife, Cindy, and I were on a little weekend getaway at the South Coast Winery Resort & Spa, in Temecula CA., celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. Each morning we would wake up in our villa room, grab a cup of coffee and take a little stroll along the vineyards which were just outside our patio. During our walks we would come across a fallen old and weathered grapevine on the ground where we collected a few, thinking one day I would somehow use them, in some fashion to memorialize our 25th wedding anniversary. Back from our weekend excursion and sitting on the front porch I was peeling the handful of grapevine pieces, when suddenly I jumped up from my chair, ran to the backyard and came back with a fractured piece of marble that I had been using for a homemade water fountain. I lined the peeled vines around the stone and told Cindy that I was going to create a board for charcuterie to be used in memory of our wonderful weekend. I lined the fractured stone with the grapevine pieces, built a pedestal frame underneath the stone, strapped the grapevines to the pedestal and intertwined them with some faux grapevine garland. Taking it to the next level I placed some ice in the pedestal under our stone and it kept our charcuterie board cool for hours. In the months to follow we enjoyed many gatherings with friends and family where our charcuterie board was the center of attention, and unbeknown to us at the time, the first prototype “KoolStone” board was born!
December 2020, after a little insistence from a close friend to build a board for her daughter as a Christmas gift, along with some encouragement by a few friends to bring our idea to market, the KoolStone Board became a reality! I found where to acquire stone countertop remnants, learned how to cut and polish natural stone, found where to find quality fine pine wood for cutting and painting frames, and taught myself how to bend and shape sheets of aluminum to line the frames with to hold reusable ice packs. Each board is handmade with quality and care, unique in its design and color, and is systematically assembled, packaged, and available in 13”x9”, 21”x6”, and 15”x13” sizes. This year (2023) will mark our third year of producing KoolStone Boards for sale at dozens of arts and craft fairs for hundreds of satisfied customers and clients.
Our wish is to share with you what we have created to be an all-in-one serving board with a built-in cooler to expand your food and drink experience. Whether it be a charcuterie of finger foods, cakes and desserts, or glasses or bottled beverages, it is sure to be quite the conversation piece and leave you and your guest with a memorable experience.
Sincerely,
Jeff & Cindy Keiser
